One of the biggest towns in Uinta County, Wyoming, Evanston has a population of 12,295 and is home to both Hamilton University and Rutherford University. With plenty of area to get outside and enjoy nature, the Evanston motto is, “Fresh air, freedom and fun.” Whether you like hiking, fishing, skiing, or just playing in the sun, Evanston has got you covered with four distinct seasons.
Evanston was named during the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad in 1868 after James E. Evans. Due to the location of Evanston and the abundance of timber along the Bear River, Evanston became the prime location for refueling cross-country locomotives. It wasn’t until the 1980s that the Evanston economy really began to grow and expand. We are seeing this happen again as drilling for natural gas has also begun in the area.
Evanston is a part of the Uinta County School District #1 and has eight campuses, including four elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one secondary alternative school. There are all kinds of family-friendly activities to choose from in Evanston, like the Evanston Rodeo Series, explore the high uintas, and shop around Historic Downtown Evanston.
